United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency, NCA, has apprehended five persons in London on Friday in connection with bribery and corruption.
The NCA’s International Corruption Unit confirmed on its website that five people were arrested in “London for suspected bribery and money laundering offences.”
However, the agency did not disclose identities of the suspects, but Premium Times, which broke the new in Nigeria, reports that the immediate past Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, was among the arrested persons.
Diezani allegedly ran to the UK after President Muhammadu Buhari won the presidential election in March 2015.
She was said to have been admitted into a UK hospital, while some claimed the hospital speculations were to shield her from prosecution in Nigeria.
Last week, the President, at a meeting with his Chinese counterpart at the UN General Assembly held in New York, promised to prosecute those involved in dirty oil deals.
He said he was going to cleanse the oil sector and return sanity to the booming sector.
