Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, has announced his retirement from international football for Nigeria.
The Akwa Ibom State-born footballer took to his Instagram page to announce his decision to leave the Eagles. He thanked his numerous fans around the world for their support in the past 13 years he has represented the country.
“I have fought a good fight for more than 13 years. I have finished my course, I have kept the faith and sang the anthem with passion.
“Henceforth, there is laid for me a crown which only God can reward me for my 13 years of national services. God bless Nigeria,” the goal stopper said.
He further said, “Henceforth, I am no more the captain of the Nigerian senior football team. I am no more the goalie of the team. I am out of the team. I am no more available for international duties.”
Enyeama concluded by saying, “I want to say than you to every Nigerian fan and supporter worldwide. It’s been the most trying period of my life, but I know that Nigerians are there for me and God is with me. God bless Nigeria.”
It would be recalled that on Tuesday night, Enyeama and the team’s head coach, Sunday Oliseh had a clash at their Belgium hotel, ahead of the two friendlies with Congo and Cameroon in few days’ time.
Oliseh was said to have called security guards to boot Enyeama, who buried his mother over the weekend, out of the camp.
However, the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, claimed that the matter had been resolved. Enyeama even trained with the team on Wednesday. Trouble reportedly started after Oliseh announced Ahmed Musa as the new Super Eagles captain.
