The University of Calabar, UNICAL, Cross River State has been closed down by the school management.
Authorities of the higher institution announced the closure of the school after students staged a protest over alleged poor welfare.
Management of UNICAL said the school will remain under lock and key for two weeks and urged students to “vacate the hostels on or before 6 pm (on Monday, October 12, 2015) to enable management address the issues raised by the students.”
In a statement issued by the Registrar of the school, Moses Abang, the management said, “Normal academic activities would resume in Friday 30th October 2015.”
Students of the institution stopped activities during the protest. Some of them carried placards kicking against lack water, electricity and increase in school fee and other charges.
