The Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, has upheld the election of the state governor, Abiola Ajimobi.
At the ruling on Wednesday, the five-man panel of the court headed by Justice M Saulawa unanimously struck out the petition filed by the governorship candidate of Accord Party in Oyo State, Rashidi Ladoja.
Ladoja had filed a petition to the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Ibadan to challenge the declaration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as winner of the April 11 gubernatorial poll.
But the tribunal struck out his case, which made him to appeal the judgement. On Wednesday, the Court of Appeal also dismissed his case and upheld the election of Ajimobi.
Justice Saulawa struck out Ladoja’s appeal “in its entirety and the ruling of the lower tribunal on August 18 upheld.”
The court explained that the case was dismissed on the grounds of incompetent appeal.
