The Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has charged troops fighting Boko Haram in north east Nigeria to buckle up because the country’s sovereignty is presently “threatened.”

Buratai made this known in his message to troops, which was posted on the social media platforms of the Defence Headquarters on Friday.

The Army Chief said the ability of the military to “defeat Boko Haram terrorists in the next few weeks will determine the future of our country.”

He further said because of the confidence Nigerians and President Muhammadu Buhari have in the army, “we cannot afford to lose the fight” since “we are better trained and better equipped.”

Buratai reminded the troops that “the next few days will be crucial” for the reason that “our sovereignty as a nation is threatened; the military as the symbol of our nationhood is being challenged” by the terrorists, who have continued to carry out deadly attacks lately, including in Abuja.

“The whole nation is behind us. Mr President is with us. Let us remain steadfast in this noble cause. Be courageous. We must degrade and defeat the terrorists. This job must be done. We must make our country men and women proud,” he told the soldiers.
