Some teachers in Abia State, mostly women, on Thursday took to the streets to show their displeasure over government’s refusal to pay their salaries.
The demonstrator carried placards displaying various messages all pointing to non-payment of their salaries for months by their employers.
They paraded streets of Umuahia, the state capital, urging the government to effect the payments before poverty consumes them.
According to the protesters, the Abia State Government must use the bailout fund released to it by the Federal Government to pay them. They alleged that the government has not adequately used the fund to pay workers as required.
The protesting teachers called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and other agencies to investigate what the state government used the bailout fund for.
