Some market women in Rivers State staged a peaceful demonstration in Port Harcourt on Thursday in solidarity with the state governor, Nyesom Wike.
The women carried placards with different messages to protest the nullification of Wike’s election by the election tribunal.
They dared the scorching sun on Thursday to make their displeasure known during the protest.
According to our correspondent, the demonstrators walked from the Old Township in Port Harcourt to the secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, also in Port Harcourt, the state capital, where they presented their grievances to the PDP chairman in Rivers State, Felix Obuah
The party commended the women for the peaceful protest, describing them as true democrats. The party assured them of victory during the rerun as directed by the tribunal.
On October 25, 2015, the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal ordered a rerun in the election that brought Wike into power.
