Former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, has been granted bail by Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
Suswam was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over allegation of looting about N3.1billion, being proceeds of shares owned by the Benue State government and Benue Investment and Property Company Limited.
He was accused of the offence alongside his erstwhile Commissioner for Finance, Omodachi Okolobia on a nine-count criminal charge.
After hearing the bail application filed by the former governor’s counsel, Justice Mohammed released Suswam and Okolobia on bail to the tune of N100m each. The court order that the duo be kept in custody of the EFCC pending the time they meet their bail conditions.
The accused persons were directed to produce one surety each who must be civil servants not below grade level 12 in either federal or state employment and that the sureties must be ready to depose to an affidavit of means.
The accused persons were further directed to submit their international passports to the court registrar, while the matter was then adjourned till December 8 and 9, 2015, for trial.
