A former Minister of Education, Igwe Aja-Nwachukwu is dead. The deceased was said to have breathed his last in Israel on Tuesday.
News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the Aja-Nwachukwu died in an Israeli hospital from an undisclosed ailment. He was said to have been receiving treatment at the hospital for about four weeks.
The cause of his death is yet to be confirmed, but his death certificate is expected to shed more light into this.
His younger brother, Festus Aja-Nwachukwu, reportedly confirmed the death of the former minister in Abuja to NAN.
Aja-Nwachukwu served as minister under the administration of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
After declaring his intention to contest for the Ebonyi governorship seat in 2015, the 63-year-old native of Okposi in Ebonyi State withdrew from the race.
His father was Nigeria’s first minister of education and he graduated from the University of Ibadan with a Bachelor’s Degree in statistics.
