A south east interest group, Igbo Mandare Congress, IMC, has commiserated with families of the alleged massacred of members of Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, by the Nigerian Army.
According to reports, several members of the Islamic group were killed in a raid by the military, including three children of leader of the sect, Sheikh Zakzaky.
IMC, which condemned the killing, noted that officers and men of the Nigerian Army should be taught the modern rules of dealing with civilian altercations, and should know that the frequent release of bullets is now outdated.
In a statement issued by IMC’s Director General, Rev Obinna Akukwe, the group urged the military to accept that they reacted over the issue and take corrective actions to avoid a future repeat of this ugly incidence.
Also, the IMC asked President Muhammadu Buhari to accept responsibility for these military excesses as Commander-in Chief of Nigerian Armed Forces and lead a delegation that should apologize to the sect for the excesses of his men.
Furthermore, the group demands the release of Sheikh Zakzaky and other detained sect members for proper medical treatment, while advising the Sunni Muslims in Nigeria to live at peace with their Shiite brothers and not emulate the schisms and dissension which had polarized the Middle East, turning it into a constant war zone.
