Jurgen Klopp’s men ran away with a vital, but narrow win on Tuesday night when they played Stock City in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final.
Jordon Ibe’s goal 37 minutes into the first half was enough for the Reds to take to Anfield for a return leg in three weeks’ time.
The Mark Hughes’ boys worked tirelessly to savage a draw, but they could not get past their visitors, who looked more serious for business.
The win came despite the guest suffering three injuries. Liverpool first suffered an injury blow when they lost Philippe Coutinho to a hamstring injury at the Britannia Stadium. He was replaced by Ibe.
Another came for the Reds when Dejan Lovren was led off the field of play due to an injury he picked up also during the first part of match. James Milner came off bench to replace him, which forced Lucas to pair Kolo Toure in central defence.
As if that was not enough, Toure kicked an injury in the second 45 minutes.
Klopp now has a dream of going to Wembley to win his first trophy for Liverpool.
However, the club now has 12 of its top players on the injury list and they are; Sturridge, Origi, Toure, Sakho, Henderson, Rossiter, Lovren, Skrtel, Flanagan, Gomez, Coutinho and Ings.
