Incumbent governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, has been declared winner of the gubernatorial election in the state.
The Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Zana Akpagbu, announced Dickson as winner of the bye election held in Southern Ijaw Local Government on Saturday, January 9, 2016.
Dickson, who contested in the poll on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, defeated his closest rival, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to clinch the slot.
According to INEC, the total number of voters for the election was 654,493, while the accredited voters were 242,114.
While the PDP raked PDP 134,998 votes, the APC grabbed 86,852 votes and the other 19 parties that took part in the poll got 3669 votes.
According to figures released by INEC, total valid votes were 225,520, the rejected votes 6,647 and the total votes cast 232,167.
