A northern youth group has backed Minister of Interior, Abdulrahaman Dambazzau, over the cleaning of his shoe recently in public by a security official attached to him.
An officer of the Department of State Services, DSS, was pictured cleaning the shoe of Dambazzau with a white piece of cloth at a function in Abuja, which got him several harsh criticisms.
But a group named North-east Youth Peace Development Empowerment Initiative, said it was part of the job of the body guard to ensure his boss looked clean and neat in public.
According to the National President of the group, Alhaji Kyari Idris Abubakar, in a statement issued in Lagos, “I don’t think the minister has done anything wrong by allowing his Orderlies to clean his shoe during a public function in Abuja recently.”
He explained that “If you are enlisted into the job of a body guard it is your duty to ensure that the boss dress properly in the public and when you notice something wrong in his dressing, you correct it immediately.”
Abubakar urged those criticising Dambazzau including the online publications to properly understand what happened on that day and the job of the DSS official which he was assigned. He further described the publications as unnecessary and ignorant of the existing practice in the military.
