There was tension among motorists and pedestrians on Wednesday evening when officers of the Mobile Police and a Navy personnel engaged in a gun battle in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
It was gathered that both men of the Force showed their supremacy in a gun duel, which left many people scampering to safety so as not to be hit by stray bullets.
The ugly incident reportedly took place at MOPOL Barracks, off ‘Mummy B’ road, Port Harcourt, at about 6pm.
We could not however confirm what led to the exchange of gunfire, but some eyewitnesses claimed the right of way in the busy and congested roads in the rush hour traffic may have triggered the clash.
Sound of gunshots were reportedly heard in the area, which caused traffic gridlock at GRA junction, Port Harcourt /Aba expressway, Mummy B road and Stadium road.
Rivers Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Muhammad, confirmed there was an incident between the Police and Naval Personnel but said that the matter had been resolved.
