Walk Against R@pe Nigeria Unveils Ambassadors

Organisers of the yearly programme, Walk Against R@pe, WAR, Nigeria have begun preparations for its 2016 edition, which has again received the nod of the Lagos State Ministry Of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

Also, various celebrities have been signed up as ambassadors for the initiative.

Names of the important personalities signed as ambassadors of WAR include Mercy Aigbe, Timi Dakolo, Waje, Bolanle Olukanni, Adekunle Gold, Harrysong, KCee, OC Ukeje, Joseph Benjamin and Annie Idibia.

Others are Desmond Elliot, Femi Adebayo, YQ, Joel, Vector, MI, Iceprince, DJ Caise, Kehinde Bankole, Ini Edo, Seyi Law, Dayo Amusa, Japheth Omojuwa, Olori Supergal, Niniola, Immaculate, Jaywon, Toni Payne, Gbemi, Azuka Ogujiuba, Illbliss, Chidinma, MC Shakara, Senator, Funny Bone, Ajebo, Ushbabe, Pencil and Akpororo.

WAR campaign is a special demonstration that brings together mothers, fathers, guardians, teachers, youth advocates, social activists, actors, actresses, sports men, media practitioners, musicians, DJs, comedians, youth organizations, showbiz personalities and student delegates from various higher institutions and secondary schools around Lagos State to lend a voice to $exually abused persons (particularly women and children), and also show their support to the course of bringing an end to RAPE in Nigeria where the number of r@pe cases is on the increase.

According to the National Coordinator of the initiative, Esther Ijewere-Kalejaiye, “Our aim is to help in encouraging victims to speak out and reduce the stigmatization attached to the victims of $exual abuse and r@pe as well as use the ‘Walk Against R@pe’ as a platform to inform the society about the soaring scourge of $exual abuse especially as it relates to young girls and women in general. The walk will be held in Ondo, Edo, Delta and Oyo States this year as well.

Aside the celebrities that are attending the walk, invitations have also been sent to non-government organizations, representatives from different local governments in Lagos State, media practitioners, TV/radio presenters, students delegates (from higher institutons), secondary school students, faith based organisation, corporate social responsibility arms of various organisations and the general public.

The walk is slated for March 10 and, it starts from the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church ground and ends at the Ministry of Women Affairs, Alausa, Ikeja.

Walk Against R@pe is organized by Rubies Ink Initiative for women and children in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs since 2010.
