The Senatorial polls held over the weekend in Kogi State have been declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
On Saturday, the electoral body conducted elections in Kogi Central and East, but on Sunday, INEC failed to announce winner, saying the polls were undecided.
However, three members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, won more seats into the state assembly.
In the senatorial rerun election in Kogi Central, Hon Ahmed Salau Ogembe of the PDP raked 45,468 votes, Senator Nurudeen Abatemi of Progressive People Alliance, PPA, scored 31,163, while Dr Moses Wakili of Social Democratic Party, SDP, garnered 9,962 votes.
INEC’s Returning Officer, Salihu James, who declared the elections inconclusive, explained that this decision was reached following the cancellation of over 20,000 votes which affected the entire Otutu ward; two polling units at Upogoro in Okene Local Government Area; and in Karaworo, Eresuha and Inozomi wards in Adavi Local Government Area, due to electoral malpractices.
