Detained Brigadier-General Enitan Ransome-Kuti has been released from custody by the Nigeria Army Council after renowned lawyer, Femi Falana called for his freedom few days ago.
A confidential memo obtained by SaharaReporters shows that the council also approved his demotion from the rank of Brigadier-General to Colonel.
He was subsequently recommended for re-absorption into the Army and received his first posting.
It would be recalled that Ransome-Kuti was arrested in January 2015 and tried for cowardice. He was accused of abandoning his duty post in Baga where he was commander of a joint multinational task force.
He faced a court martial and was said to be unable to account for weapons seized by Boko Haram militants at their base in Baga, where the terrorists chased out his men.
