Troops of Operation Sharan Daji recently engaged in anti-cattle rustling, armed banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities in various states of the North-western part of the country and recorded yet major successes against the crimes.
During the operations, many cattle rustlers were killed and their camps destroyed by the military.
During the raids, several livestock were recovered along with arms and ammunitions.
In Zamfara State, the troops killed four rustlers, wounded 16, arrested 3 and destroyed 7 of their camps. They also recovered 486 livestock, 2 machetes, 3 AK-47 rifles and 4 AK-47 rifle magazines from the criminals.
According to a statement issued by Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, who is the Acting Director Army Public Relations, the troops killed 5 rustlers, arrested 2 of them and destroyed 5 camps in Katsina State.
He said items also recovered were an AK-47 rifle, 4 locally manufactured guns, 12 machetes and 116 livestock.
Unfortunately, one of the soldiers sustained injury and is receiving to treatment, Usman said.
Also in Kaduna State, the military recovered 305 livestock, 2 locally made pistols, 3 bows and arrows and 4 machetes. They killed 2 armed rustlers, arrested 7 and destroyed 6 camps belonging to the criminals.
The raid also got to Kano State’s Doguwa forest, where one rustler was killed and their camp destroyed. One hundred and twenty-six cattle, 331 sheep, 10 donkeys and 3 camels were recovered from the rustlers.
Deep operations by troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army in conjunction with other security agencies, deployed in the various States are ongoing to flush out kidnappers, cattle rustlers and other armed criminals, the Army spokesman said.
