City now sit fourth on the table with 51 points, one below Arsenal, who stay rooted third on the log.
Leicester remain in first position with 60 points, while Tottenham are second with 55 points, all after 29 matches.
The league leaders will hope to beat Newcastle, who are battling with relegation, on Monday night when they meet. The Magpies appointed Rafa Benitez on Friday after they sacked Steve McClaren because of poor run.
In other matches played on Saturday, Stoke City were defeated at home 1-2 by Southampton, while AFC Bournemouth beat Swansea City 3-2.
