An attack that occurred at a beach in Ivory Coast has left about 16 fun-seekers dead. The ugly incident took place on Sunday evening.
Fourteen civilians and two soldiers died after heavily armed gunmen attacked a beach resort at Grand Bassam, about 40km Abidjan.
The attackers fired on beach-goers at the popular resort, which boasts of locals and foreigners.
Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, AQIM, has already claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to AFP, a witness said heavily armed men wearing balaclavas opened fire near the L’Etoile du Sud hotel.
A French national was among the dead victims.
French President, Francois Hollande, described the incident as a “cowardly attack”.
