The joint Senate and House of Representatives committees set up by the National Assembly on Tuesday to investigate the alleged invasion of the Ekiti State House of Assembly has arrived the state capital, Ado-Ekiti.
The committee, which is on a fact finding mission and led by Senator Muhammed Shaba Lafiaji, arrived their base in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday evening.
They visited the state governor, Ayodele Fayose, in his office, and talks held.
Lafiaji, who addressed journalist after the meeting, explained that they are in the state to know exactly what transpired between the DSS and the Ekiti Assembly.
He said, “The national assembly was concerned by what happened in Ekiti State recently and simultaneously, motions were moved in the Senate and House of Representatives showing concerns over what has happened.
“The two arms directed the committees on security and intelligence of the Senate and House to go into the details of what happened, in our wisdom, we thought we should combine our efforts so we decided to come out with a joint committee and that’s why we came out here.”
Furthermore, he said “basically, what we’ve come to do is some fact finding, no more, no less. We have gone round, we’ve seen the commissioner of police, we have seen the director of SSS, we have gone to the House of Assembly and we are here to show our respect to the governor of Ekiti.”
Fayose, while also speaking, said he wouldn’t want to make any comment, ask questions or interfere with the committee’s mission, but thanked them for assisting in the challenges of Ekiti.
It would be recalled that armed men of the DSS on Friday, March 4, 2016, stormed the Assembly and subsequently abducted four of its members.
Other members of the committee are Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji, Hon. Isa Hassan, Hon. Eucharia Azodo, Hon. Dyegh John, Sen. Paulka Emmanuel, Sen. Laah Danjuma and Hon. Diri Duoye.
