The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Bar Beach Division, Lagos, CSP Olusegun Ajamolaya, recently combed suspected criminals’ hideout in Victoria Island area of Lagos and its environs.
The senior cop led his men to the operation, which lasted about two hours.
Areas raided include Ahmadu Bello Way, Kuramo junction, Eko Hotel roundabout, Adeola Odeku, Bishop Oluwole, Akin Adesola, Law School under bridge and Idowu Taylor area of Victoria Island, Lagos.
About 30 suspected criminals were arrested, while others managed to escape.
It was reported that the DPO swung into action following complaints by residents, church goers and fun seekers that some suspected criminals were making life unbearable for them on their way home in the early hours of the day.
Police identified the suspects as Kamara Yusuf, 24, Gabriel James, 31, Sunday Johnson,31, Aderinde Oladimeji, 36, Monday Osunde, 26, Abode David,24, and Komiti Obaikpororo, 26.
Others include Adeleye Muyideen, 32, Daniel Benjamin, 27, Omokayode Olumo, 49, Paul Ekwueme,31, Babajide Ogunfinwa, 34, Adewale Adedeji, 21, Sunday Sunday, 19, Samuel Mathew, 25, and 15 others.
During investigation, according to the police, all the arrested suspects could not give satisfactory account of themselves.
After investigation by Inspector Rotimi Sumonu and his team, all the suspects were arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on a three-count charge of conduct likely to cause breach of peace by disturbing the peace of the residents, damage to HITECH Company fence, harassing and intimidating citizens.
While 10 suspects were arraigned before Magistrate Mrs. A..O. Komolafe and were granted bail in the sum of N20,000 each, 20 other suspects were arraigned before Magistrate Mrs J. Ugbomoiko and were ordered remanded in prison custody till Monday, 21 March to face trial.
Magistrate Komolafe adjounrned the case till 12 April, 2016 for mention.
