Reports reaching us show that a Major in the Nigerian Army (name withheld) has been feared dead in a clash with unknown gunmen in Abonnema, Akuku-Toru local government area of Rivers State.
The Army officer was reportedly killed alongside three soldiers on Thursday afternoon.
Details of the killing remain sketchy at the time of reporting.
There has been a rise in killings in Rivers State. The latest incident comes barely 48 hours to the rerun election in the state.
