Chief of Staff to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Chukwuemeka Woke, has been arrested by officials of the Department of State Security, DSS, in the state.
Woke was apprehended on Sunday over an alleged assassination attempt on the life of Peterside Dakuku, the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, in Rivers State.
According to reports, two SUVs trailed the former candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State in April 2015, and shot at him.
However, Dakuku escaped the attempt on his life.
The DSS later arrested the Chief of Staff in connection with the incident and he is reportedly in their custody.
He was accused of leading the killer squad that opened fire on Dakuku.
In a release by office of the NIMASA boss, the gunmen trailed Dakuku from Aba Road as he drove towards his house in the GRA area of Port Harcourt, but as his car made to turn towards the GRA entrance to his home, they (gunmen) drove aggressively hoping to overtake his car.
However, Dakuku changed course and drove to the state headquarters of the DSS as his security aide had already radioed for help.
As soon as Dakuku entered the DSS’ premises, officers at the gate reportedly opened fire on the two SUVs trailing him and succeeded in demobilizing the care and got some of the occupants, including Woke, arrested.
