According to reports reaching us, troops of the 7 Brigade have ambushed and killed no fewer than seven members of the Boko Haram sect at Dawashi village in Borno State.
The insurgents were dealt with a huge blow on Sunday morning by the military personnel fighting terrorism in the state, a statement by the Army disclosed.
In the statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, the “gallant troops that laid in wait at the terrorists suspected crossing point engaged them on sight and killed the seven terrorists.”
It was further disclosed that one Peugeot Station Wagon loaded with 2,010 litres of Premium Motor Spirit commonly known as petrol packed in 67 Jerri cans were recovered by the personnel.
Also recovered from the Boko Haram members were “uniforms, some materials and Improvised Explosive making Devices (IEDs), dry cell batteries, one AK-47 rifle, tools and fish.”
The Nigerian government has been in a long battle with the militant group, which has used the north east of the country as its base.
The former government of Goodluck Jonathan declared emergency in three north east states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe in an effort to clampdown on the group, but the war was not totally won.
Though the present claimed it has subdued the group’s activities in the region, however, pockets of terror attacks have still occurred in Borno State.
