The annual Maulud procession of Islamic Movement in Nigeria otherwise known as Shiites was halted by military personnel in Katsina on Wednesday.
This caused tension in the area, but there was no record of any breakdown of law and order in the process.
It was learnt that as the members were gathering at Central mosque on Wednesday morning for the take off of the procession, the armed officers dispersed them and patrolled the major streets of the city.
Leader of the group in Katsina, Sheik Yakubu Yahaya, narrated that about 10 armed vehicles stormed the mosque and seized banners and flags belonging to members of the movement and scared them away.
The Sayyada Zahara Maulud procession is a yearly event held by Shiites to commemorate the birthday of daughter of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), Fatima.
