Police Finally Seal Kogi Assembly

The Kogi State House of Assembly has eventually been sealed by the Nigeria Police following crisis rocking the hollowed chamber.

Security operatives stormed the Assembly complex on Wednesday and sealed it off pending when the leadership tussle is resolved.

Last week, the National Assembly took over proceedings of the Assembly, though said it was for a while.

It was gathered that heavily armed policemen manned the main entrance to the Assembly complex and prevented members who were to conduct budget defence from entering.

Also, employees of the Assembly were thoroughly searched by the serious looking security operatives and only allowed those with valid ID cards issued by the Assembly authorities.

It would be recalled that crisis broke out in the Kogi Assembly after five lawmakers of the 20 in the chamber moved to impeach the Speaker of the House, Momoh-Jimoh Lawal.

Efforts by the House of Representatives to resolve the issue were not fruitful. This forced the National Assembly to approve the sealing of state Assembly.
