Olam Nigeria has disclosed that no human fatality was recorded in the inferno that broke out in its factory on Friday afternoon.
The company, in a statement issued by its Head, Corporate and Government Relations, Ade Adefeko, said the company’s in-house fire and safety procedures were able to get its employees to safety, which was the reason no life was lost.
The statement disclosed that an investigation into the unfortunate incident has been launched to unravel the cause of the fire.
Adefeko explained that the inferno occurred “at around 2pm and immediately, the Lagos State Fire Service, as well as the Federal Fire Service and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, were alerted.
He noted in the statement that the company’s fire equipment was mobilised to contain the fire until the arrival of the emergency services.
Olam Nigeria commended the efforts of the agencies and noted that their fast intervention ensured that the damage was limited only to property.
On Friday, April 1, 2016, fire gutted the RANONA factory of Olam Nigeria at Isolo in Lagos. The company produces juice and dairy products.
