One of the labour unions in Nigeria has concluded plans to hold a one-day protect over the lingering fuel scarcity and poor electricity supply in the country, especially the hike in the tariffs recently.
The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, said the situations in the country are biting hard on the citizens and said the demonstration is to voice out the pains of Nigerians.
NLC said it is not true that it has become a toothless dog or compromised.
The labour union said it also feels the pains the petrol scarcity and the poor electricity supply have caused.
NLC said the present economic hardship Nigerians are facing under the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is becoming unbearable and want something urgent done to alleviate the pains of citizens.
President of the NLC, Ayuba Wahab, while declaring open the Central Working Committee, CWC, meeting of the union, accused the All Progressives Congress, APC-led government of failing in several fronts in its promises to the people.
The NLC president said it was wrong for the government to go on with the increase in tariffs in electricity despite a court order against it.
He said, “The point must be made that obedience to the rule of law by all citizens but more particularly those who publicly take the oath of office to protect and preserve the Constitution is desideratum to good governance and respect for the rule of law. In a constitutional democratic society like ours, this is meant to be a norm.”
According to Wahab, the NLC will also protest against anti-labour laws about to be enacted by the Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
