Authorities of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, Akoka, have closed the institution following a protest by students over poor electricity and water supplies.
The school ordered students to vacate their hostels latest on Friday morning and urged parents to recall their wards home.
On Thursday, April 7, 2016, students of the school expressed their grievances over the epileptic nature of electricity supplied to their hostels.
They said the situation has made life hard on them and called on the appropriate authorities to look into the matter.
But the school authorities apparently felt the students’ unrest could lead into chaos and ordered the closure of the institution.
In a circular on Thursday, the school said it was forced to shut down the school also because of difficulties faced by a large number of students living off campus to attend classes as a result of the lingering fuel crisis.
The circular noted that the Senate of the school sees “the problem of poor municipal service” as a “national issue that the governments at both state and federal level are addressing.”
The school management pointed out that “a decision to re-open for normal academic activities will be made as soon as municipal services improve.”
Meanwhile, some students have vowed to remain in school and not obey the directive.
