The protest embarked on by students of the University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT, Rivers State on Monday morning has turned violent, Aproko247 has learnt.
It was gathered that one of the policemen drafted to quell the demonstration allegedly shot one of the protesting students.
According to what was disclosed to us, the victim is a member of the Students Union Government, SUG, of the school.
This, we were further told, irked the already aggrieved students.
UNIPORT students are protesting a hike in their tuition fee by management of the school.
They had earlier grounded academic activities in the institution, blocking major entry and exit points in the school.
It was disclosed to us that the student shot by the police has been rushed to a nearby hospital for prompt treatment. The students have vowed to go on with their protest despite the unfortunate incident.
