Former Nigerian Diplomat Hamzat Ahmadu Dies

A former Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, Hamzat Ahmadu, has been reported dead.

The deceased was said to have breathed his last at the age of 92 at a private hospital in Lagos on Sunday.

Late Ahmadu, who was also the Walin Sokoto, served as Personal Secretary to two Nigerian military leaders: Aguiyi Ironsi and Yakubu Gowon.

He also served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to United States of America, Germany, France and the former Soviet Union.

The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, described him as a peace-loving and committed family man who gave invaluable contributions to the unity and development of Nigeria.
