A meeting has been conveyed by the Federal Government with leadership of the organised labour to address the planned industrial action by workers on Wednesday.

The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, had threatened last week that it would go on a nationwide strike on Wednesday if the government failed to revert to the old pump price of N86.50 per litre for petrol from the new N145 price.

It was gathered that by 3pm on Monday, both parties would meet and hope to reach a truce in order to avert the strike action.

According to what is being speculated, the FG may also come with a proposed N45,000 minimum wage, which is N11,000 short of what they had initially put forward to the government.

The FG delegation is expected to be led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, but it is not certain if he would be present at the meeting today.

From what we also gathered, the FG might assure the labour leaders that no worker would be laid off from the government’s workforce.
