Atletico Madrid were on Saturday defeated on penalties by their arch city rival, Real Madrid at the San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy, in the UEFA Champions League finals.
It was Real’s 11th Champions League trophy since the competition debuted and they remain the only club with the highest number of trophies won.
Real went ahead through a Sergio Ramos’ goal in the first half, but Atletico cancelled out the deficit less than 13 minutes before the end of the match.
The game stretched into extra time of 30 minutes without a clear winner, which forced it into a penalty shoot out.
The Diego Simeone’s men lost their fourth spot kick, but Cristiano Ronaldo ensured he slotted in Real’s fifth kick to grab the trophy for Zinedine Zidane on his first year as manager.
