The Lagos State Government has urged all cinema owners to strictly comply and abide by the stipulated safety standard guiding the operation of same in the state.
The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Film Video Censors Board (LSFVCB), Bamidele Balogun, made this appeal during his working visit to some cinemas in the state, noting that part of the statutory responsibilities of the Board involves registering, licensing, censoring cinematograph works and premises as well as prescribing safety regulations on exhibition premises amongst others.
He explained that the stipulated safety precaution for cinemas is to have at least one entrance and one emergency exit in every cinema hall, functional fire extinguishers and air-conditioners in order to avoid any form of asphyxiation.
While praising the management of the Silverbird Cinemas for prompt discharge of its obligations to the State Government, Balogun stated that Cinemas should strive to strictly adhere to the age specifications on films in order to prevent children indulging in immoral practices.
Responding, the General Manager of the Silverbird Cinemas, Franson Davis, who received the Executive Secretary and his team at the Silverbird headquarters in Victoria Island, applauded the State Government for its commitment to creating enabling environment for the entertainment industry to thrive, pledging that his organization would continue to cooperate with the State Government on improving standard in the industry.
The Cinemas visited include Film House Cinema, Surulere; City Mall Cinema, Onikan and SilverBird Cinemas in Victoria Island and Ikeja Shopping Mall.
