Terry G has explained why he assaulted a DJ at an event held over the weekend at the Shell Hall of Muson Centre, Lagos.
While performing on stage at the show, the Idoma, Benue State-born musician landed a heavy slap on DJ Phreez, which many said ended the event abruptly, a claim the organiser of the occasion has vehemently debunked.
Speaking with Airwaves Report, Terry G said he was pissed off by the DJ, who reportedly played another artiste’s song while he was still on stage.
Terry G described the action of DJ Phreez as a “slap on my face.”
He asked, “Will heaven fall if a comedian comes to whisper in my ears and say you’re running out of time; round up?”
“That was a slap on my face,” he submitted.
“Give or take, I got too many hits to care about who cares. I am not a kid in this industry, and I am not a one-hit kind of artiste, why on earth will I walk up to a show if I was not billed and a DJ will be playing another artiste’s song just to chase me out of the stage?
“Though I was angry and emotional at the same time and even the crowd complained about the DJ’s behaviour. I guess that’s why I did what I did because it can happen to anybody, but I’ve apologized to Jimmy Jatt and DJ Phreez,” he said.
Terry G later tendered a public apology for his action after the Deejays Association of Nigeria, DJAN, ordered its members to blacklist all songs that have Terry’s inputs until further notice.
This was made known in a statement signed by Sebastian Ikpoza (DJ Desert Storm), who is the National Secretary of the association.
