DHQ Halts Onslaught On Niger Delta Militants

The Defence Headquarters in Abuja has scrapped the Joint Task Force operation in Niger Delta tagged Operation Pulo Shield and has replaced it with a joint military operation called Operation Delta Safe.

This information was contained in a statement issued by DHQ Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar.

According to the Defence spokesman, the adjustment was in line with the Defence Headquarters’ initiative to restructure the joint task force for better service delivery, efficiency and effectiveness.

It added that the policy review was in line with the vision and mission of the present administration to contain the current security challenges in the Niger Delta.

According to the statement, under the arrangement, the joint operational areas of the new outfit have been delineated into three sectors and five operational bases covering the entire Niger Delta, Ondo and Akwa Ibom States.

It said the headquarters of Operation Delta Safe would be in Yenagoa.

It explained that this became expedient in order to inject new tactics and robust operational initiative to tackle the emerging security challenges in the Niger Delta.
