Argentine footballer, Lionel Messi, has announced his retirement from international football. The Barcelona star made this known shortly after his team lost the 2016 Copa America competition to Chile, a team that denied then of the same title in 2015.
Messi, speaking with Argentine national television after the game, told the world that he will not likely change his mind on this decision.
“I think this is good for everyone and for me. I have tried four times and I am done trying. For me, there is no going back,” the five-time world footballer of the year disclosed.
Shortly after his team lost 4-2 to Chile in a shootout, Messi broke down in tears in disbelief.
Messi has been heavily criticised in Argentina for not winning a major title for his country. The footballer has won almost everything to be won in club football, but not for Argentina.
