The teaching of religious studies in Nigerian schools has been advocated by the National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muiz Banire, to curb the decadence and high level of criminality in the society.
Banire made this recommendation at the breaking of Ramadan fast with the children from the Babel Salam Orphanage home.
He said it was unfortunate that what Nigerians celebrate today is wealth without asking question about the source, believing that the society can effectively reverse the trend through the teaching of the young ones with religious studies that will make them to be conscious of their actions and their creator at all times.
According to the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, the teaching of religious studies in schools will surely bring back morals and values that we have lost due to gross indiscipline and corruption in the country.
He recalled that when he was appointed to serve in Lagos state in 1999, close relatives advised him not to return to the family without getting his own share of the National cake but ignored the advice.
Banire noted that what we have in the country today is people celebrating people convicted of corruption and other criminal activities.
He explained that he was touched by the pains the less privileged and the orphans go through in the society to put in place various measures to have direct contacts with them.
On the state of the nation, Banire renewed appeal on Nigerians to always pray for the success of the Buhari-led government, appealing to Nigerians to shun all forms of divisive tendencies.
The Babel Salam Orphanage home was established by the late religious, business philanthropist and business tycoon, Wahab Iyanda Folawiyo.
