President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has announced the restructuring of leaderships of the Senate’s committees.
In the latest reshuffling, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, a member of anti-Saraki Unity Forum, was named chairperson of Committee on Environment, while Kabiru Marafa, Saraki’s main critic, was appointed chairman of the Petroleum (downstream) Committee.
Before now, he used to be chairman of the Committee on National Population, while Tinubu was previously the chairperson of Senate’s Committee on Women Affairs.
Another critic of the Senate President, Suleiman Hukunyi, was announced Chairman on National Identity.
The re-composition of the Senate committees was one of the conditions put forward by Unity Forum Senators for peace to return to the troubled assembly.
Saraki announced the changes shortly before the Senate adjourned on Thursday.
