Report reaching us at the moment confirms that five of the 19 soldiers reported missing in action after an ambush at Guro Gongon on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, have been found.
It was earlier reported that the troops were ambushed by Boko Haram suspects and 19 soldiers were said to be missing.
However, Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, disclosed on Saturday that five of them have been rescued.
According to Usman, the missing soldiers were found on Saturday morning.
“We wish to inform you that the search party has this morning found five more officers and soldiers that were declared missing in action, including the unit’s Commanding Officer,” the Army spokesman said.
It was revealed that “concerted efforts were initiated to search for and rescue them and these measures include the use of air assets, Special Forces and patrols.”
“Although they are in a stable condition, but have been moved to our Medical facilities for medical care,” the Army concluded.
