Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Rotimi Akeredolu, has picked his nomination form to participate in the governorship election in Ondo State.
Akeredolu, fondly called Aketi, promised to transform the state if elected into office as governor.
He made this known in his 11-point agenda.
The erudite lawyer further promised to have a leadership style that is armed with integrity, pointing out that his leadership would be “caring, close, consistent, and competent.”
“We shall reduce unemployment by diversifying the economy; expand industrialisation; open land for new mechanised farms; empower women in their businesses; encourage and improve tourism and eco-tourism potentials; improve coastal zone management by developing hospitality and tourism potentials; attract local and foreign investment,” he said.
According to Akeredolu, “Our state shall return to the path of real development propelled by selfless zest. We shall harness the vast resources which abound in the state for the benefit of the people. Our state will assume its deserved pride of place in the region.”
On security, he promised that it would be “taken seriously”, adding that “the people of the state shall play a pivotal role in securing our immediate environment.”
“Our youths, especially the unemployed, shall be fully engaged in the turn-around project.
“The activities of government under my watch shall discourage the rural-urban drift. Our farmers will be actively encouraged to engage in profitable endeavours through direct assistance from the government.
“Our educational institutions shall receive adequate attention.
“If we are given the mandate, we shall strive to make our state take its enviable seat among component units in the country. The beggarly status of states shall be actively addressed by making our state viable economically. We shall be a reference point.
“Our vision for Ondo State encapsulates the dream of the South West Region of Nigeria for socio-economic integration.
“The consuming passion of our administration shall be service. In the main our development plan is tied to our programme of change,” he submitted.
