Some employees of local governments in Edo State on Wednesday brought business activities in the state to a halt following a protest embarked on by them.
The demonstrating workers claimed they have not been paid their salaries for months now, saying hunger has almost rendered them powerless.
The workers marched in their hundreds from Five Junction to Ring Road before making their way to Sapele road in Benin City, the state capital.
The protesters, under the aegis of Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, appealed to authorities to do the needful.
During the demonstration, motorists were trapped in traffic gridlocks in Benin City, while others not caught in the jam took alternative routes.
The workers of the 18 local government areas of the state, who majority of them wore black dresses, lamented failure of their councils to pay the outstanding salary ranging from two to 18 months.
