NCC Nabs 6 In Kano For Selling Pre-registered SIM cards

The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has arrested six persons in Kano State for alleged selling of pre-registered SIM cards. The commission recovered over 100 pieces of pre-registered SIM cards from the suspects.

Speaking shortly after raiding some places at the famous GSM Market at Farm Center and ’Yankura Market, yesterday, the head of re-enforcement unit of the commission, Alhaji Salisu Abdu, said that similar operation was conducted in Abuja, Lagos and other states.

Abdu said that the suspects would be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution if they were found guilty.

He said: “NCC had issued directives since 2011 that all new SIM cards must be registered before put into use but, unfortunately today, you can go to market and buy pre-registered SIM card and put in your mobile phone and start using it.”

Abdu said that such SIM cards could be used to commit crime by some bad elements in the society, adding that the commission’s laws did not allow proxy registration.
