A student of the Lekki British International School in Lagos has been expelled from the school for allegedly putting an acid in the water flask of one of his classmates.
The student, according to Punch, is in Junior Secondary School (JSS) I.
He was caught by other classmates allegedly putting the sulphuric acid and ethanol in the victim’s water.
It was reported that the boy was envious of his 11-year-old female classmate for coming first in the class in their academic results, especially during the first and second terms this session.
Punch said the school was planning for the third term exam when he allegedly sneaked into the school’s laboratory and stole the acid and ethanol and poured in the water bottle at around 1:30pm on Wednesday, June 14.
Two pupils of the school reportedly caught him in the act and reported to the school management and the suspect allegedly owned up to the crime, saying he had been planning it for some time.
A member of the 11-year-old’s family said on Wednesday that despite the culprit’s confession, the school allowed him to sit for the third term examination.
When Punch contacted the school management, an official, who did not identify herself, said the pupil had been expelled.
“The boy has been expelled with immediate effect. The girl is in school and she is fine. We have zero tolerance for such misbehaviour,” the school official reportedly said.
