A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has lauded the approval for the construction of a rail line and other accompanying infrastructure from Port Harcourt — Maiduguri by President Mohammadu Buhari.
Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, had stated last Monday that the Federal Government will reconstruct the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri rail line with capacity to transport 11 million tons of cargo. He said the entire stretch of the rail line will be rebuilt, adding that a railway industrial park in Port Harcourt will be part of the design.
Amaechi added that President Muhammadu Buhari has also approved two new seaports – one in Bonny, Rivers State and the other in Warri, Delta State.
Describing the approvals as well conceived, Chief Eze said the projects when completed will ease the movement of human and goods, enhance businesses, create jobs and generally provoke a massive economic fillip for improved revenue generation to government.
On the new seaports, the party chief said, “the importance of the new ports cannot be overemphasised owing to the over congestion of Lagos ports. The new ports will decongest Lagos, inject fresh blood to the Ports in Rivers and Delta, create fresh business opportunities, provide jobs and enhance lives”.
He said the importance of the strategic projects to investors, travellers and Nigerians in general is overwhelming, stressing that men and women of good will continue to be grateful to President Buhari and Minister Rotimi Amaechi for the massive infrastructural revolution in the rail sector.
Chief Eze commended the Minister for promising to support another port proposal for Akwa Ibom state, positing that such projects in Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom will turn the South South and South East into massive investment havens.
He appealed to leaders and the good people of South-South and South-East to unite, support President Buhari and Rotimi Amaechi to attract more developments to the regions.
