Ex-Ogun Assembly Majority Leader, Mafe Yinka, Dies on Birthday

The immediate past Majority Leader of the Ogun House of Assembly, Hon Yinka Mafe, has died. The lawmaker from Sagamu breathed his last on February, 4, 2020, incidentally on his 46th birthday.

Confirming his demise, the Publicity Secretary of the Ogun Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Committee, Tunde Oladunjoye, said in a statement that the circumstances surrounding the death of the lawmaker, who reportedly complained of chest pain, are still sketchy.

He described the late legal practitioner and consummate entrepreneur as vibrant, who was known for his outspokenness, no matter where he finds himself.

“The party recalled that even when others remained in the deflated and defunct Allied People’s Movement (APM), Yinka Mafe took a very bold and courageous step to return to APC”.

“While the other defected and defeated members of defunct APM were still shadow-chasing and preoccupied with empty boasts, Mafe, less than a month after the election of Prince Dapo Abiodun, specifically on April 2, 2019 announced his return to APC on the floor of Ogun State House of Assembly.”

“While commiserating with the wife, children and the entire members of the family of the deceased, and indeed the people of Sagamu 1 State Constituency, the APC prays that God will give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” he said.

Yinka Mafe was born on February 4, 1974. He was elected a Councillor of Ward three in Sagamu Local Government Legislative Council from 1998 to 2002.

In 2011, he was elected as a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly to represent Sagamu 1 constituency and became the Chairman House Committee on Education, Science and Technology. In 2015, he was re-elected into the Assembly and was picked as the Majority Leader.

He had intended to become a member of the House of Representatives, but lost out. Yinka Mafe is loved by many in Sagamu.
