An initiative aimed at celebrating men who are impacting other lives and communities during the pandemic on Friday, May 15, 2020 commenced in Nigeria.
The scheme called #COVIDHero series, was initiated by foremost activist, Esther Ijewere, of the War Against Rape (WAR) fame.
The #COVIDHero series was created from her earlier initiative called ‘Men Who Inspire’, a platform she developed to celebrate men in the society.
Since 2018, the ‘Men Who Inspire’ platform celebrated men from different sectors and brought their stories to the front burner, in a bid to motivate and encourage every man out there to be the best version of themselves.
According to Esther Ijewere, the convener of the initiative, “With the #COVIDHero series, we hope to not only highlight these wonderful men who are using their platforms to support those in dire need, but to also use their stories to promote the culture of kindness and giving in our world.”
“This is an uncertain time in the world and these men have shown us that we all have an option to be kind,” she stated further.
It was gathered that 10 men have been shortlisted via a Facebook call for nomination post and their names will start rolling out weekly, starting from Friday May 15, to highlight their work and celebrate them for standing in gap.
Organisers of the programme have urged those who know of any man who is using his platform to support others during this pandemic, to forward their names for nomination.
According to the brain behind this initiative, “He is a hero, and he deserves to be celebrated.”
