Group Shares Hand Sanitizers, Face Mask to Less Privileged

A non-governmental organization, Covid-19 Relief Nigeria, has distributed thousands of personal protection materials such as hand sanitizers, reusable face masks, and COVID-19 awareness flyers/posters at Cele Bus stop and Sadiku Ilasamaja Bus stop, along Oshodi/Apapa Expressway, Lagos. The NGO is an initiative of Imose Cares Foundation International (ICFI)

Founder of the group, Mrs Sofiya Imose, said the organization is focused on supporting people considered less privileged, with little or no access to COVID-19 awareness materials. Covid-19 Relief Nigeria is making more efforts to reach out to other areas.

While speaking on the gesture, Imose explained that “The guiding philosophy of Imose Cares Foundation Int. for Covid-19 Relief Nigeria is ‘all hands must be on deck’ because food is a necessity not a luxury.

“We seek to pool all available resources both at home and in the diaspora to support the organized collective central efforts of the federal government to alleviate the effects of Covid-19 in Nigeria which is highly impacting on the masses especially with the strict lockdown enforced by the government in a bid to contain the spread of the virus, forcing millions of families into distress due to extreme hunger.”

“We are available to answer the immediate needs of the poor, the less fortunate, and at-risk Nigerian families especially children.”

She said the foundation has embarked on several outreaches recently in line with its goal of feeding one million families daily.

She further said, “We are seeking for professionals including psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, certified life coaches to volunteer their time to help set up an online network for people needing professional mental health help due to the emotional toll of the COVID-19 crisis.

“Sessions would be held over the phone or on over video chat. The initiative is the first move by an NGO in Nigeria to try to address the mental health consequences that have arisen from the COVID-19 crisis,” the founder said.

Covid-19 Relief Nigeria provides educational materials for home-schooling and other non-classroom learning for all grade levels.

This is extremely crucial amongst the students that attend government schools. Many of them do not have access to internet and/or even television to engage in lessons that are offered to private school students.

Covid-19 Relief Nigeria is also partnering with other NGOs within Nigeria who are willing to become channels of hope in their communities to enable us reach out to more Nigerians through their existing platforms.

The NGO hopes to do this by providing them with the resources and support they need to bring relief to their communities.
