Lagos state government has announced the reopening of tertiary schools on 14th September, 2020. Governor Bajidide Sanwo-Olu during the regular briefing on Covid-19 status also revealed that there are possible reopening of both primary and secondary schools from 21st September, 2020.
According to Sanwo-Olu, “this decision is not cast in the stone and is subject to review of our on-going modelling and what procedure comes out from the Ministry of Health”.
The decision to reopened schools is coming after five months of closure due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, a measure put in place to curtail the spread of the virus.
The Governor in his briefing also disclosed that bars, lounge, spas, night clubs will still remain closed for now but restaurants are now permitted to open for in-dining services by maintaining 50% maximum occupancy at any point in time.
Lagos state is the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria with a total of 18,083 confirmed cases of coronavirus of which 13,636 has recovered and sadly lost 204 people.
Sanwo-Olu used the occasion to assure that the Commissioner of Health, Prof. Abayomi is doing well and still discharges some of his duties from isolation. He also announced during his briefing the “COVID-19 Care Packs” for Covid-19 patients who prefer to be managed through the home care base.
The pack is said to consist of drugs, sanitizers, face mask and other materials which are being issued free of charge to these patients.
